Water supplies were resumed on the Italian island of Capri on Saturday evening. Some tourists also returned, but – as local media note – the losses to the image of this tourist pearl are enormous. Many people decided not to come to the island.

Due to the blockage of water supplies as a result failure of the water supply network the mayor of Capri issued a decree suspending the arrival of tourists. In the port of Naples, from which ships and ferries leave for the island, there was chaos in the crowd of hundreds of waiting people.

After several hours, the situation returned to normal. First, those tourists who had booked hotel rooms were allowed to arrive.

Not all tourists returned

Restrictions on arrivals were lifted on Sunday, but not all tourists returned. Many people resigned, reports the Ansa agency. Some places usually under siege on the weekend were empty.

As noted by the media, the hotel and catering industries are concerned about the situation and fear that the damage to Capri's image may be long-term.

Local authorities in Naples announced an emergency meeting on Tuesday to develop a crisis plan to prevent such a situation from happening again.
