An indictment was brought to court against Krzysztof P., suspected of unintentionally causing an accident in Wawrów (Lubuskie), in which a 10-year-old boy died. According to experts, P. was driving too fast, and during the investigation he admitted that he was taking drugs on the day of the accident. The man faces five to 20 years in prison.
The tragedy occurred on the night of February 9 in Wawrów, Podgorzów, while a group of people were getting ready to go to the mountains. While children and guardians were packing their luggage onto the bus, the driver of a BMW X2 hit a 10-year-old participant of the trip and fled the scene. The boy died on February 10 in the hospital. Several hours after the accident, the police detained the BMW driver, Krzysztof P.

According to the prosecutor, Krzysztof P., having been banned from driving by the court, intentionally violated road traffic rules by driving too fast (10-20 km/h over the speed limit of 40 km/h in this place) and not taking special care when passing a person standing on the opposite side. the bus lane where the side and emergency lights were on. As a result, he hit a 10-year-old who was at the time near the center line of the road (in the lane of a BMW car), which caused the 26-year-old to unintentionally cause a road accident.

The indictment also covers the suspect's girlfriend – Paulina M. The prosecutor accused her of being a supporter, i.e. helping the perpetrator of the accident by hiding the car. Like Krzysztof P., she is also charged with drug possession. The woman faces from one to 10 years in prison.
The prosecutor discontinued the investigation against the defendant's brother, Arkadiusz P., who was initially accused of also helping the suspect hide the damaged car. The investigation found no evidence that he had done so.

Findings of the prosecutor's office
The findings of the investigation show that the causes of the accident were failure to comply with road safety rules of the BMW driver and the pedestrian (accident victim), who, when using the road outside the designated pedestrian crossing, did not exercise particular caution and did not give way to the BMW driver.
Moreover – as written in the indictment – the accident was caused by irregularities related to the loading of luggage by pedestrians from the side of the road, without taking measures to secure the loading, and a passenger car parked incorrectly 10 m from the pedestrian crossing. The prosecutor ordered the police to initiate misdemeanor proceedings in these matters.

“When interrogated as a suspect, Krzysztof P. initially downplayed his guilt, but ultimately admitted to committing the crimes he was accused of in full, provided explanations that corresponded to the established facts, and expressed regret and remorse,” said the spokeswoman of the District Prosecutor's Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski. The indictment in the described case was sent to the District Court in Gorzów Wielkopolski at the end of October.
