Iga Świątek won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games after defeating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the match for third place. After competing in France, the world ranking leader was supposed to appear at the tournament in Toronto, but she withdrew. She cited fatigue as the reason, certainly both physical and mental after the hardships of the games.
Iga Świątek returns to the court. We know when and where
The tournament in Toronto is currently underway, and Iga Świątek's team reported that after a rest after the games, the tennis player will go straight to the United States. We have just received confirmation in the form of information from Dominik Senkowski from Sport.pl. The world ranking leader will play in the tournament in Cincinnati.
“Iga Świątek will play in Cincinnati – I just got confirmation from the tennis player's team. The WTA 1000 main tournament starts on Tuesday. The draw for the bracket will be on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Polish time. This will be Iga's first start after the Olympics, as she withdrew from this week's Toronto tournament,” wrote Senkowski on X.
This means that we won't have to wait long to watch Świątek again. The tournament in Cincinnati will start on August 13, and the finals are scheduled for August 19. The American competition is of course of great importance – WTA 1000.
Last year, Świątek did really well on American courts. In Cincinnati, she was eliminated only in the quarterfinals by Coco Gauff, who she lost to 6:7, 6:3, 4:6. The American later won the entire competition. The Pole will defend 350 points in the WTA ranking.
This year's competition is set to be another edition of the battle of the world's best. The lists of women's competitors so far have also included Aryna Sabalenka, Jelena Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini and the defending champion Gauff. A men's tournament will also be held in parallel, with Hubert Hurkacz likely to take part.
