There was a knife attack in a shopping center in Sydney. As a result of the incident, five people were killed and several, including a small child, were injured. At that time, Mrs. Joanna was shopping in the mall with her daughter. “Suddenly people started screaming and the staff started calling for people to run away.”

Emergency services responded to Westfield Bondi Junction shortly before 4pm local time (i.e. at 8:00 a.m. Polish time) – the New South Wales Police said in their announcement. Appealing to people to avoid the area, officers issued a warning in light of the situation.

Mrs. Joanna was then on the first floor of the gallery. – My daughter and I were in the Mayer store when suddenly people started screaming and the staff started telling us to run away. Everyone left their things and went to the warehouse, she reported to Kontakt 24.

A quick reaction was advisable. – About 30, maybe 40 people crowded into the warehouse. People were crying and shocked. The internet stopped working. We heard strange cracking noises and we thought it was the store's closing grate. We were later told it was gunshots.

After about an hour, the staff informed people that they could go to the exit. – We listened to the employees and headed to the exit, but the police suddenly told us to come back quickly – she said.

“We heard screams”

– We escaped again to the warehouse and suddenly panic broke out there. Everyone was crying, people didn't know where to run. We heard screams that must have come from the floor above.

After some time, they were allowed to leave again. – The police checked everyone's ID. After leaving, it turned out that they were killed and many injured. We survived. We were very lucky, but we are in shock.
