Each signal on alleged irregularities regarding the operation of insurance companies against the victims of the flood will be checked – the minister, government representative for reconstruction after the flood Marcin Kierwiński said at a press conference on Monday. Tomasz Chróstny, president of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, announced the “examination of internships” in this respect.
– The state must act and stand on the side of the victims – said Kierwiński. – Every reported case must be considered to be 100 % certain that insurance companies are working properly – he said. He added that signals about alleged irregularities should be explained as soon as possible. – We must be sure that the people who insured are properly treated by insurers – said the minister. – We will check if the insurer behaved improperly whether the policy was badly formulated and so on – explained Kierwiński, stipulating that he did not prejudge whether some insurers behaved incorrectly.

He added that by December 2024, insurers paid about PLN 800 million in damages for losses caused by the flood, so – in his opinion – “they seem to work efficiently”. The Government Plenipotentiary for Reconstruction after the flood reminded that if someone feels injured by an insurance company, he should report to the financial spokesperson.
The office will check how the insurers behaved
President UOKiK Tomasz Chróstny announced during the conference he emphasized that “towards the delicate matter”, which is the good of the victims, “who continue to suffer as a result of the effects of the flood, decided to initiate explanatory proceedings and examine the practices.”
– We start with the largest insurance companies, but this is not a closed catalog – said Chróstny. As explained by the President of UOKiK, the office is to check in the course of the proceedings whether as part of the policy and liquidation of damages, consumers may have been misleading and violating the collective interests of consumers, including the introduction to contracts, regulations or general insurance conditions – abusive clauses. – I met the seven largest insurers. The presidents have committed themselves to the fact that they would make a quick and thorough review of the procedures and verify the liquidation, where the smallest value of the benefit in relation to the insurance sum was – said Chróstny.
