Weather for winter break 2025. On Monday, students in some voivodeships will begin a two-week break from classes at schools. Will their first days turn out to be white, or is there no chance of resting in the snow? Check the preliminary forecast from weather forecaster tvnmeteo.pl Arleta Unton-Pyziołek.
On Monday, January 20, with the beginning of the winter holidays in Poland, a North Atlantic cyclone is expected to rule the weather for a few days. In all regions where winter recreation is to begin (voivodeships: Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Lubuskie, Małopolskie, Świętokrzyskie, Greater Poland) there is a chance for clear and clear weather. Thermometers will show in Monday in Kujawy, Lubuska Region and Greater Poland up to 5-6 degrees Celsius, and in Małopolska and Kielce region up to 3-4 degrees Celsius.
In Tuesday cloud cover will start to increase. But the rain front that is supposed to be heading towards us from the west will not enter the country yet. The temperature in the west and north-west of Poland will increase to 4-5 degrees Celsius, and in the south to 3-4 degrees Celsius.
IN Wednesday An atmospheric front is about to enter, bringing full cloud cover and rain to Kuyavia, the Lubuska Region and Greater Poland. However, in Małopolska and the Kielce region it will be cloudy, but it should not rain. The temperature is expected to be quite even, both in the west and southeast, it is expected to rise to 3-5 degrees Celsius.
A gulf of cold will develop over Europe
The situation will start to change in Thursdaywhen a gulf of cold will develop over Europe, reaching from the Arctic to the Alps, the Sudetes and the Carpathians. Cold, moist Arctic air will flow over Poland, with light, fleeting snowfalls. In Kujawy, Lubusz and Greater Poland they will be rather symbolic, while in Lesser Poland and the Kielce region up to 2-3 centimeters of snow may fall. Thermometers will show up to 2-3 degrees Celsius in the west and north-west of the country, and up to 1-2 degrees Celsius in the south.
A high pressure is expected to develop over Scandinavia next week. Its location on Thursday, January 23 over northern Europe would mean blocking the Atlantic lows and severe cold flowing from the north and east for longer. Thus, in Friday there would be light snowfall from billowing clouds, light snowfall in the west and north of the country, up to one cm, but in Lesser Poland and the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, more heavy snowfall – up to 3 cm. The temperature in the regions where the holidays will take place will rise to a maximum of 0-2 degrees Celsius.
At night, temperature drops below zero will be possible, down to -4/-2 degrees W Saturday snow may still fall briefly, up to 1-2 cm, and the temperature may rise to 1-2 degrees Celsius.
An attack of winter and a chance of heavy rainfall
Meanwhile on Sunday there's a surprise coming. A low pressure system with thick clouds and a lot of moisture may move over Poland from Italy and the Balkans. If it manages to enter the high-pressure area, up to 5-10 cm of snow could fall on Sunday.
It was in such barometric situations, when it was pressing from the south that it was carrying huge amounts of moisture from the Mediterranean Sea, that we had spectacular winter attacks in Poland. For now, there are no signs of such strong phenomena, but the cold Scandinavian high, drawing winter from the north, will create conditions for the low pressure to manifest itself. In the mountains, it can easily add up to 20 cm of snow. With rainfall, the temperature in the afternoon would increase to 0-1 degrees Celsius.
Thus, at the end of the first week of holidays, the whole of Poland turned white. The cold may stay in Poland for longer.
