The weather in Poland on Friday and Saturday will be very dangerous. Cyclone Ulf, also known as Otto, is approaching our country. Storms with gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour are expected. Snow, sleet and rain are also forecast for the weekend. It will cool down, it can freeze at night.

Poland falls under the influence of a dynamic temperate cyclone Ulf, the center of which moves from the north Atlantic Ocean towards southern Norway. Ulf is the name given by Free University of Berlin (Free University of Berlin), which analyzes baric systems over Europe. As the synoptic of tvnmeteo.pl Arleta Unton-Pyziołek explains, because this one is “very dynamic and violent and will be recorded in the history of meteorological measurements”, the international name Otto is also used for it.

On the night of Thursday to Friday, a weakly active cold atmospheric front will move over our country from midnight, followed by an active warm front during the day. Fairly warm polar air will continue to flow in, but very humid, the weather forecaster informs tvnmeteo.pl. He adds that the low-pressure vortex will bring a weather breakdown in the form of heavy rainfall and intensifying wind.

Strong winds from Friday

Friday will be mostly cloudy. From the west, rainfall of 10-15 liters of water per square meter will move inland in the north of the country, and will amount to 1 to 10 liters per square meter. The maximum temperature will range from 4 degrees Celsius in the Suwałki Region, through 8 degrees Celsius in the center of the country, to 11 degrees Celsius in the Lubusz Land. The wind will be southwest, moderate and quite strong. In gusts it will reach speeds of up to 50-80 kilometers per hour, but on the coast it will increase to 100 kilometers per hour.

Weather on Saturday ‘very difficult and dangerous’

According to our weather forecaster, very difficult and dangerous weather awaits us the next day. The center of cyclone Otto is to move over the Baltic Sea towards the Gulf of Finland. Another atmospheric front will enter Poland, this time cold with sleet and strong winds. Hurricane wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h are possible on the coast and Pomerania. Dangerous wind, threatening health and life, will also blow in the center of the country. Strong gusts will make it feel colder than the thermometer indicates.

Saturday will be cloudy with showers. It shouldn’t rain in the northeast of the country. In the belt from Kashubia, through Kujawy and Mazowsze, to the Lublin region, there will be periods of rainfall with snow up to 5 l/sq m, and in the western and southern regions there will be rainfall up to 10 l/sq m. Up to 10-20 centimeters of snow will fall in the mountains. On thermometers we will see a maximum of 4 degrees C in Podlasie, through 7 degrees C in the center, to 10 degrees C in Lower Silesia. The wind will be strong, with gusts up to 70-90 km/h, and over the sea it will speed up to over 100 km/h.
