Winter holidays have started in five voivodeships. The first week of break from school classes will bring cloudy weather to resting students. Snow is expected, in some places even several centimeters, and temperatures below zero. Rain and sleet will fall in places.

Winter holidays officially started on Monday. Students from the following voivodships were the first to get an inter-semester break from school classes: Lublin, of Lodz, Subcarpathian, Pomeranian and Silesian. From January 23, students from voivodships will also have two weeks off Podlaskie and Warmia-Masuria.

In Poland, two-week winter holidays fall on different dates in individual provinces.

Poland is under the influence of low-pressure whirlpools from the Atlantic Ocean, Arleta Unton-Pyziołek, forecaster at tvnmeteo.pl, informed on Monday. She added that the weather is shaped by low-pressure systems with centers on the Norwegian Sea, Denmark and southern Europe. Two weather fronts move over the country from south to north in moderately cool and humid polar air. In the following days, Poland will find itself in the cold polar air masses from the North Atlantic.

On Tuesday, a snow front will form over central Europe, which in Poland will run from Silesia to the Gulf of Gdańsk. Another band of heavy snowfall will form over our country on Saturday. At the beginning of next week, with the development of the high pressure over Poland, there will even be a frost of several degrees.

Tuesday will bring heavy clouds with showers in the regions where the winter holidays are in progress. In Pomerania, Lublin, Podkarpacie and Silesia, there will be periods of light rain and sleet up to 1-5 liters of water per square meter, in Kashubia – also wet snow, which will fall to three centimeters. Up to 5-10 cm of snow will fall in the mountains. Only in the Łódź Voivodeship it will not rain.

The maximum temperature in the fertile regions will be from 4 degrees C in Silesia, through 5 degrees C in Pomerania, Lodz Region and the Lublin region, to 6 degrees C in Podkarpacie. It will blow south-west, weak and moderate, at times quite strong wind, gusts in the north will speed up to 50 kilometers per hour.

Wednesday will also be cloudy. In Pomerania, heavy rainfall of wet snow up to 5-10 l/sqm is forecast. In the Lodz Region and Silesia, sleet falls up to 10 l/sq m. Road conditions will be difficult there. On the other hand, in Podkarpacie and Lubelszczyzna, rainfall will fall to 5 l/sq m.

Thermometers will show a maximum of 2 degrees C in Pomerania and 3 degrees C in the Lodz region and Silesia, through 8 degrees in the Lublin region, to 10 degrees C in Podkarpacie. In Pomerania, the wind will blow from the north-west, in other regions it will blow from the south-east, moderate and quite strong, with gusts up to 50-70 km/h.

Thursday will be marked by heavy clouds with minor showers. Only in Podkarpacie and Lubelszczyzna it will turn white and it will snow up to 5-10 cm.

The thermometers will show a maximum of 0 degrees C in Silesia, 2 degrees C in the Lodz region and Pomerania, 3 degrees C in the Podkarpacie and Lublin regions. Northwest winds will be light to moderate.

Friday will be cloudy with some showers in the west. Only in Podkarpacie there will be snow and it will fall to five centimeters

The maximum temperature will be -1 degrees C in Silesia, 0 degrees in Podkarpacie and Lubelszczyzna, 1 degrees C in Pomerania and the Lodz region. There will be a northerly, weak and moderate, periodically quite strong wind, which will speed up to 50 km / h in gusts.

It will be cloudy on Saturday. Heavy snowfall of up to 5-15 cm, covering all regions, is forecast from the east and progressing inland.

Thermometers will show a maximum of 0 degrees C in Podkarpacie, Lubelszczyzna, Łódź Land, 1 degree C in Silesia and 3 degrees C in Pomerania. North-west wind, moderate, at times quite strong, with gusts up to 50-70 km / h. May cause snowstorms.


On Sunday, only in the Lublin region, it will not rain. In other regions snow falls up to 2-5 cm at times.

Thermometers will show a maximum of -1 degrees in Silesia and Podkarpacie, 0 degrees in the Lublin region and Łódź Land, 1 degrees in Pomerania. It will blow north-west and north, only in the east south-east, moderate and sometimes quite strong wind, with gusts up to 50 km / h.


On Monday – when two more voivodeships, Podlaskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie, will join the holidays – the weather will be cloudy with more clear spells. Light snow is possible in Pomerania. In the morning in Silesia and Podkarpacie there will be frost, thermometers will show -14/-10 degrees C.

During the day, the thermometers will show a maximum of -3 degrees in Silesia, -1 degrees in Podkarpacie, Łódź Land, Pomerania, Warmia and Masuria and in Podlasie, 0 degrees in the Lublin region. South-easterly winds will be light to moderate.
