Weather in Spain. Snow has fallen in parts of the country and a storm is approaching

The last weekend of February brought winter weather to the northwestern part of Spain. Another 15 centimeters of snow may fall in the next 24 hours. The weather service AEMET has issued weather warnings.

Heavy snowfall hit northwestern Spain on Friday. It turned white, among others, in the commune of Pedrafita do Cebreiro located in the province of Lugo in Galicia. Snowplows were on the local roads.

There will be more snow during the weekend

The winter weather will not let up this weekend. As the Spanish media write, it is coming to the country storm Louis. It will bring another portion of snow and gusty winds. A storm is forecast on the coast, which may cause waves to reach 6-9 meters.

Most snow is expected to fall on Saturday in the mountains. In places in Cantabria, above 1,200 meters above sea level, there will be more than 15 centimeters of snow. There is expected to be slightly less snow on Sunday, mainly in the Pyrenees above 1,400 m above sea level. A new storm is also expected to appear in Spain on that day – Monica. It will come from the north-west and bring rainfall to parts of the country.

After the weekend, the snow cover in the Pyrenees may reach almost half a meter, Spanish media report.

Meteorological warnings

The Spanish weather service AEMET has issued third-degree storm warnings. Level 1 alerts are also in force for heavy snowfall in the north of the country, and for strong winds in the south. Forecasts show that 15 centimeters of snow may fall in some places during the day.
