Winter attack in Poland. In the following hours, the “snow spiral” will continue to rotate over our country, bringing a further increase in snow cover. Where can we expect the heaviest rainfall at night?
Poland is under the influence of a small but very strong Charly low pressure vortex. Its center will remain in the region of north-eastern Poland and Lithuania for the next two days.
– The vortex directs cold and moist Arctic air into our region of Europe, filled with clouds, thick in some places, carrying wet snowfall. In this moist mass, a large snowfall zone was formed over the Baltic Sea, which entered northern Poland at night – tvnmeteo.pl forecaster Arleta Unton-Pyziołek reported on Saturday.
Snow at night
According to the forecaster, around 9 p.m. snowfall in Poland occurred on the atmospheric front, which in the form of a spiral extends over Pomerania, Greater Poland, the Lubuskie Province, the entire Silesia, Lesser Poland, the Łódź Province and Masovia. The rainfall was light and moderate, sometimes heavy.
– Later in the night, this snow spiral is expected to rotate slightly over Poland, slowly moving southeast. Until midnight, snowfall will continue over Pomerania and the west, south and center of the country. They will be mostly weak and moderate, but in places in the center and southwest they may be heavy, she explained. The increase in snow cover at night will amount to approximately 5-10 cm, and will be particularly significant in the center and south of the country.
After midnight, the rainfall will disappear in Western Pomerania and the Lubuskie Province, but will begin to cover Podkarpacie and the Lublin region. It will rain heavily in the south, in Małopolska, Podkarpacie and the Carpathians.
In the morning, a band of snowfall, increasingly jagged, will stretch in an arc from The Bay of Gdańsk and Warmia through the center of the country to Upper Silesia, Lesser Poland, Podkarpacie and the Lublin region. Snowfall will slowly move away from Kashubia, Kujawy, Greater Poland and Lower Silesia.
The forecaster warned that the rainfall would be accompanied by moderate and quite strong winds from the west and southwest, gusting to 50-60 kilometers per hour in the lowlands and up to 70 km/h over the sea.
