A 23-year-old driver who hit a six-year-old girl on the lanes in Wejherowo (Pomorskie) heard the charge of causing a fatal accident and was temporarily arrested. The child died in hospital as a result of his injuries. A six-year-old was crossing the road in a green light.
The 23-year-old, who – on Thursday, December 2 – hit a six-year-old child on the seat belt with a Mercedes sprinter, was taken to the prosecutor’s office. – The man was charged under article 177 of the Criminal Code, paragraph 2, that is, causing an accident with a fatal outcome – Grażyna Wawryniuk from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk told us. The man is threatened with up to eight years in prison.
– The man interviewed as a suspect confessed to committing the offense he was accused of. He made an explanation which shows that he was not observing the road properly. The prosecutor decided to submit to the court an application for the temporary arrest of the suspect for a period of three months, added Wawryniuk.
The court arrested the 23-year-old driver for three months. This was announced on Friday evening by the prosecutor Grażyna Wawryniuk.
Police: ran a red light at a pedestrian crossing
The accident happened near the intersection of Gdańska and Rybacka streets in Wejherowo.
– A six-year-old girl with her grandmother and younger siblings was walking through the belts when a car hit her. She was resuscitated by rescuers and was taken to hospital in serious condition, reported Anetta Potrykus from the Poviat Police Headquarters in Wejherowo. The girl’s life could not be saved.
Police findings confirmed that it was the driver who entered the pedestrian crossing on a red light, and the child was crossing the road on a green light. Initial blood tests showed that the bus driver was sober.
