The last period was not successful for Iga Świątek, there is no doubt about it. Not only did she quickly drop out of Wimbledon, but she also disappointed during the Olympic Games in Paris and the tournament in Cincinnati. She was therefore very motivated to repeat her feat from 2022 and win the US Open. However, it was clear from the very beginning that she was not in the best shape. Ultimately, she reached the quarterfinals, where she lost to Jessica Pegula 2:6, 4:6.

– I probably didn't find the right solution because I wasn't able to put pressure on with my serve. Besides, I wasn't consistent enough from deep to help myself. You can't win if you make so many mistakes. And I made them. It's my fault – Świątek explained after the defeat. Despite this, she recorded a better result than last year, when she reached the fourth round, and thus gained more points in the world ranking.
The Polish player currently has 10,885 points. Tennis365 announced that she is now one of seven players who have exceeded the 10,000-point mark. What's more, apart from Serena Williams, she is the only one to have reached 11,000 points after an impressive performance in Rome. The portal notes, however, that Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert are not among the listed players, as the current point system was introduced after their careers ended in 2009.
Serena Williams's result seems unattainable at the moment. On June 10, 2013, she could boast 13,615 points. After all, the American won Wimbledon, the US Open, the WTA Finals and the China Open in 2012, and a year later she triumphed at Roland Garros, when she defeated Maria Sharapova in the final. Victoria Azarenka is in third place in the ranking. Dinara Safina, who is in fifth place, is the only player, apart from Jelena Janković and Karolina Pliskova, who has been at the top of the WTA rankings despite never winning a Grand Slam tournament.
