24-year-old Weronika Falkowska (422. WTA) did not have a very successful beginning of the year. She took part in only one main tournament – ITF W75 in Leszno. The Polish woman lost there in the second round with Lithuanian Justina Mikulskyte (207. WTA) 3: 6, 6: 7 (5: 7). Then Falkowska dropped out in qualifying for tournaments at indoor courts in Manchester and Trnava.

Weronika Falkowska Marathon and a great promotion in the WTA ranking

Last week, Weronika Falkowska flew to Italy to play in the single and doubles of the ITF W35 rank tournament in Solarino (Sicily Region). The Polish woman did a great job there. On Sunday, she fought three matches in eight hours.

First, she fought in the quarter -finals of the single with Italian Federica Urgei (482. WTA) and won in an hour, 45 minutes 7: 5, 6: 4. Then the Polish woman in the semi -final of the event eliminated 17 -year -old Czeszka, semi -finalist of the junior Wimbledon from last year – Vendula Valdmannova (837. WTA) 7: 5, 7: 5. The match lasted two hours and 11 minutes.

However, this is not the end. Falkowska, after appearing in the single, in hand with the American Paris Corley won in the semi -final of the doubles tournament with a duo from Italy: Samira de Stefano/Gaia Maduzzi 6: 1, 6: 2.

On Monday, a 24-year-old Polish woman first fought in the final of the single game. She faced Jaonna Garlad (Taiwan, 246. WTA). Unfortunately, Falkowska will not remember this duel. After an hour and 27 minutes she lost smoothly 1: 6, 2: 6. Thanks to reaching the final of the tournament in Solarino, the Polish woman recorded a large jump in the WTA ranking – from 422 to 379.

The Polish woman also had another reason to be satisfied, because in the final of Debla together with Corley she beat a couple: Valentini Grammatikopoulou/Yulia Hatouka (Greece, Belarus) 6: 1, 6: 1.

For a Polish tennis player, this is the 24th triumph in the ITF rank tournament in doubles.
