After leaving Saudi Abha after the previous season, Grzegorz Krychowiak was looking for a new club for quite a long time. He was even linked with Legia Warszawa, but nothing came of it. Finally, at the end of September, he settled in Cyprus in Anorthosis Famagusta. After a few matches starting on the substitute bench, the Pole joined the starting lineup. He even had a great one game against Omonia Aradippou (3-0), where he scored a goal and provided an assist.
Krychowiak injured. There was no going back after the collision
He also started the away match against Omonia Nicosia in the starting lineup. Unfortunately, the only Poles were Mateusz Musiałowski and Mariusz Stêpiñski they started in their rivals' colors game on the bench. This is not surprising in either case. Musiałowski has been a deep substitute since the beginning of the season, and Stępiński has been on censorship at the club since he criticized fans for communist banners during match Conference League with Legia.
This time, Stępiński at least got a chance, because he came on in the 77th minute. However, Krychowiak was not on the pitch for a long time. Unfortunately, the former Polish representative had to leave the field in the 22nd minute of the match. A moment earlier, our compatriot collided with Omonia's stopper Nikolas Panagiotou. As a result of this collision, he suffered an injury and left the pitch with a grimace of pain, holding his left thigh.
Anorthosis won the “Polish” match
At the moment, it is not known what exactly is wrong with Krychowiak. The 34-year-old's absence did not stop his team from taking home victory in Nicosia. Anorthosis won 2-0 thanks to goals by Evagoras Charalampous in the 42nd minute and Ante Roguljic in the 47th minute. Mariusz Stępiński did not get on the scoreboard after entering the pitch. After seventeen games, Anorthosis is seventh in the league table (out of 14 teams). Omonia is in fourth place.
