After the victory of the Republican candidate, the opposition in the Sejm enthusiastically chanted “Donald Trump”. Politicians of the ruling coalition were more restrained. The Speaker of the Sejm and the Prime Minister congratulated Trump on his victory. The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that he was in contact with people responsible for security policy in Donald Trump's entourage. The American ambassador called the president-elect “a friend of Poland and Poles.”

In the Sejm, the right side celebrated Donald Trump's victory, chanting his name and surname. Marshal Szymon Hołownia tried to control everything, urging the MPs to return to the agenda. It looked a bit funny, but Donald Tusk's congratulations were quite serious, writing on website X that he counts on cooperation for the good of both countries.

“Congratulations, Mr. President, you have done it,” wrote Andrzej Duda. In the second entry, the president thanked the American Polish community for participating in the vote.

What will Trump do?

Along with the congratulations, there were also considerations about what to do next. – Nobody expects Donald Trump to withdraw American troops from Europe, it is against the American national interest. However, we can expect that the emphasis will be radically different – said Szymon Hołownia.

The PiS president is happy with Trump's victory, although he does not know what it will mean. – What will Trump do? We'll see – commented Jarosław Kaczyński.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, there were signals from the Trump camp about limiting aid. In this case, the president also does not know what will happen. – Words, words, words, we will see what the actions will be – said Jarosław Kaczyński.

Radosław Sikorski in contact with Trump's people

PiS politicians claim that the ruling coalition has bad contacts with Republicans and argue that PiS actually has a monopoly on the agreement with Donald Trump. But Minister Radosław Sikorski already talked to Trump's military advisor, General Keith Kellogg, in the spring.

– I am in ongoing contact with the highest security representatives in Donald Trump's camp – assures the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

There are many question marks in the Sejm, regardless of the options. – What will be Donald Trump's approach to the North Atlantic Alliance is, of course, a priority for us today. I very much regret that Kamala Harris did not win these elections – says Katarzyna Kotula, Minister for Equality from the Left.

– Of course, the alliance with the United States is important, but we must increasingly rely on ourselves – emphasizes Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy from Third Way.

“President Trump is a friend of Poland and Poles”

At the beginning of the year, Donald Trump threatened NATO countries that he would not defend them if they did not pay more for their armies. Poland spends a record-breaking almost 5 percent of GDP on defense. – We have the largest army in Europe. Bigger than the British, bigger than the Germans, bigger than the French. Therefore, we are an ideal member state for Trump – points out the deputy head of KO, Rafał Trzaskowski.

– President Trump is a friend of Poland and Poles – assured US Ambassador Mark Brzezinski, who, as he himself said, represents Joe Biden's administration in Poland.

The ambassador also recalled Trump's visit to Poland in 2017 and the recent meeting with Andrzej Duda, who, as we hear, could use his good relations with Trump at the end of his presidency to talk to him about the Russian threat and the situation in Ukraine.

– He must receive reliable information from people about the situation so as not to make mistakes, not to give in to pipe dreams or naivety – points out former president Aleksander Kwaśniewski. Donald Trump said during the campaign that he could end the war in Ukraine in a day.
