On Monday, the deputy head of the Left Club, Tomasz Trela, when asked about the possible resignation of the Minister of Science, said that the situations of recent weeks were “disturbing”, but in his opinion, Wieczorek “does not deserve to be dismissed.”

He also noted who will make the decision on this matter. – If there is a resignation, it will be the decision of the political leader of the Left and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Everyone who holds a ministerial position knows that it is not a lifelong position, he said.

Wieczorka also commented on the latest reports about her declaration of assets Katarzyna KotulaMinister for Equality from the Left. – I don't know these details. I know that this often happens to MPs, but they correct their parliamentary statements at some stage. I think that we need to sort out parliamentary statements in general, she commented.

Marcin Bosacki, KO MP, announced that the decision on the Minister of Science will be “quick” and will take place today or tomorrow. When asked by TVN24 reporter Małgorzata Mielcarek about Wieczorek's possible successor, the MP assured that the position “will remain in the Left's pool.”

On Thursday, Wirtualna Polska published an article about the minister, in which it said that “the head of the trade union at the University of Szczecin, Gabriela Fostiak, informed Dariusz Wieczorek about the irregularities that, in her opinion, are taking place at the university.” The woman allegedly asked the minister to remain anonymous. According to the portal, the minister personally delivered her letters to the rector, who was to inform the minister about “taking legal action” against the head of the union.

On Friday, Wieczorek referred to the events described by WP. In his opinion, “we are not dealing with whistleblowers, especially if we are talking about the president of trade unions.” At the same time, he apologized to Gabriela Fostiak. When asked by journalists whether he was considering resigning from his position, the head of the Ministry of Science denied it.

On Monday, a message appeared on the ministry's website with information about the Minister of Science ordering an external audit of the University of Szczecin. It was reported that Wieczorek had appointed a team to conduct an internal audit of the procedure for handling letters submitted by the head of the union at the ministry, and had appointed an expert to examine the correctness of the processing of the reporting person's personal data, and had commissioned the Department of Control and Audit to conduct an external audit at the University of Szczecin in order to verify the reported suspicions of irregularities. .

He also sent a letter to the authorities of the University of Szczecin to provide explanations on issues raised by the company's trade unions and asked the university authorities to organize an open meeting with employees and trade unions to clarify all issues related to the complaints received.

Due to the situation, the minister also decided to dismiss the Director of the Department of University Organization, Education and Student Affairs – this function was held by Marcin Czaja.

On Monday, WP published another article about the Minister of Science. According to the portal, in the declaration of assets submitted on April 24, 2024, “he did not include a garage space worth approximately PLN 30,000 and a two-hectare plot worth several dozen thousand PLN.”

The Minister of Science – as noted by WP, citing Wieczorek's words – explains the mistake as a mistake and the fact that he entered the garage space in the previous statement. “He thought he didn't have to in the latest one,” the portal added.

“Everything indicates that the Minister of Science did not want to hide his assets, but simply did not complete the declaration correctly because he got the units of measurement wrong,” WP wrote. However, according to the lawyer interviewed by the journalists, this should not constitute a mitigating factor.

On Monday morning, Wieczorek issued a statement. In it, the minister apologized for the “unintentional errors” that appeared in his declaration of assets. He emphasized that as a politician with “left-wing sensitivity” he appreciated “the role of politicians' asset declarations for the transparency and honesty of public life.”

He also announced that he would supplement the missing information in the statement about the parking space belonging to the apartment owned by the politician.

On Monday, Minister Wieczorek took part in the European Science Fair in Poznań. After the event, journalists asked him about his possible resignation or whether he would decide to resign from his position. Wieczorek did not answer any of these questions. – I am not commenting on this matter, I am not commenting on my case – he said.
