IMGW has issued first degree warnings against heavy snowfall, which in some places will fall up to 20 centimeters. There are also warnings for strong winds and freezing rain. Check where the aura will be dangerous.
Forecasters from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first-level alerts on a three-level ascending scale.
The Government Safety Center also informed about difficult road conditions, asking drivers to prepare their vehicles for the journey and take the necessary equipment.
IMGW alerts of the first degree – heavy snowfall
First degree warnings against heavy snowfall are in effect in the province Pomeranian (in the districts of Sztum, Kwidzyn, Tczew, Gdańsk, GdanskSopot, Gdynia, Kościerzyna and Starogard), where they will be valid until 11 pm on Saturday.
Snowfall is forecast, causing in places an increase in snow cover from 10 to 15 centimeters, locally up to 20 cm. In addition, strong winds of up to 70 kilometers per hour will blow, which can cause snow drifts.
IMGW alerts of the first degree – freezing precipitation
IMGW also issued alarms against freezing precipitation in the following provinces:
– mazowieckie (in northern and western counties);
– Podlaskie (in poviats in the poviats of Kolno, Łomża and Łomża);
– warmińsko-mazurskie (in southern counties);
– Kuyavian-Pomeranian (in eastern poviats);
– Lesser Poland (in southern counties);
– Silesian (in southern counties);
– Opole (in southern counties);
– Lower Silesia (in Kłodzko and Ząbkowice counties).
The snowfall is forecast to turn to sleet and freezing rain causing ice in places. In places, still weak precipitation of freezing drizzle causing black ice is observed and forecast locally.
Alerts in Lower Silesia, Opole, Silesia and Lesser Poland will be valid until 8-8.30 on Sunday, and in other regions until midnight from Saturday to Sunday.
IMGW alerts of the first degree – strong wind
IMGW also warns against strong winds. Alerts were issued in the following provinces:
– West Pomeranianin coastal poviats;
Strong winds with an average speed of up to 50 km/h, gusts up to 80 km/h, from the north and north-east are forecast.
Alerts will expire at 21 on Saturday.
What is the first degree IMGW meteorological warning
The first degree warning provides for conditions conducive to the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material damage and threat to health and life. Running a business in conditions of exposure to these factors is difficult and dangerous. Expect difficulties resulting from activities in the area where the threat occurs, including delays caused by traffic obstructions, disruptions in the course of outdoor events or the possibility of their cancellation. Caution recommended, the need to follow messages and weather developments.
