Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi traveled in a Bell 212 helicopter, which was put into service in the late 1960s, American television CNN reported, citing military analyst Cedric Leighton. He stated, among other things, that the Iranians may have had problems with access to spare parts for this aircraft due to Western sanctions, which may have played a major role in the plane crash.

Early on Monday morning, rescuers located the site of the crash in which the president of Iran died. Raisi was heading to the city of Tabriz, in northwestern Iran, after returning from neighboring Iran Azerbaijan.

He could adapt to any situation

Reuters reminds that the Bell 212 is the civilian version of the UH-1N military helicopter, which is used around the world by both governments and private individuals.

Bell Helicopter developed this model for the Canadian Forces in the late 1960s as a superior version of the UH-1 Iroquois. The new design uses two turboshaft engines instead of one, providing greater payload.

According to documentation, the helicopter was presented in 1971 and quickly entered service in both the US and Canada, Reuters reported.

The Bell 212 has been designed to adapt to any situation, whether transporting people, firefighting equipment, cargo or weapons. The Iranian model that crashed on Sunday was intended to transport government delegations, Reuters reported.
