Will Jennings is dead. Two-time Oscar winner for songs in “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “Titanic” died at the age of 80 in Texas.
Will Jennings' caretaker, Martha Sherrod, told The Hollywood Reporter that he died Friday at his home in Tyler, Texas. His health had been declining significantly in recent years.

Will Jennings was a famous songwriter, a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He won Academy Awards for the songs “Up Where We Belong” from the film “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic”.
He has also received three Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, and numerous other awards.
He began his Hollywood career in 1976. With composer Richard Kerr, he wrote the Barry Manilow hits “Looks Like We Made It” and “Somewhere in the Night”. He collaborated with Eric Clapton on writing “Tears in Heaven” for the film “Rush” and with James Horner on a song for the film “A Beautiful Mind”.
Will Jennings was a professor at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, at Austin State, and at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
