On Friday, the coalition agreement was signed by the chairman of the Civic Platform Donald Tuskhead of Poland 2050 Szymon Hołowniapresident of the Polish People’s Party Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and co-chairmen of the New Left Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Robert Biedroń.

Biedroń: when it comes to civil partnerships, the vast majority of society is in favor

Point seven of the opposition’s coalition agreement reads: “We are all equal, and sexual orientation and gender cannot be a reason for discrimination. The fight against hate speech and acts will be our priority. We will amend the penal code so that hate speech based on sexual orientation and gender is prosecuted ex officio.

– The constitution talks about equality, it is a repetition of the constitutional provision – commented the co-chairman of the New Left. – This provision opens the door to us being able to propose civil partnerships, to achieve full equality – he added.

– When it comes to civil partnerships, the vast majority of society is again in favor of it. I cannot imagine, and I say it honestly, I cannot imagine that we will end this term (of the Sejm – ed.), which begins tomorrow, without women’s right to terminate pregnancies and without civil partnerships. I can’t imagine it, Biedroń emphasized.

He said that voters “will not forgive us for this.” – In four years’ time, the world will be completely different. And partnerships are already a prosthesis today. This is no longer equality. Because that’s marriage equality then. This is the minimum of any standard when it comes to protection human rights – added.

– I have been in such a relationship for 23 years. And I really want to live to see the day when I won’t be afraid that when I leave home and don’t come back, my partner will end up on the street the next day because my family will come and question the will. I really don’t want to experience such a situation anymore, he said.

– And unfortunately, this is the everyday life of thousands of couples in Poland who are waiting for the minimum that is civil partnerships. Let’s fucking do it! Finally and finally. Just like most of Europe did and like many civilized countries in the world do, he added.

Biedroń: I cannot imagine Elżbieta Witek becoming a deputy speaker of the Sejm

The first session of the Sejm of the new term will begin on Monday at noon. The ceremonial meeting will include a speech by the president. The composition of the Presidium of the Sejm will also be elected.

Robert Biedroń was asked whether the Left would support the candidacy of Elżbieta Witek for Deputy Speaker of the Sejm. – There is no coalition agreement on this matter yet, such agreements will be made tomorrow, but I cannot imagine that after these announcements that we will hold accountable those responsible for violating the constitution and violating the law, and one of such people is certainly the current Marshal Witek, who really did a lot to not only break the rules of the Sejm, but also break the foundations of law in Poland, to become a deputy speaker of the Sejm – he replied.

As he said, this would be “legitimizing evil” and “blurring the obligation we have made with society to hold accountable those who have broken the law over the last eight years.”
