The night from Saturday to Sunday brought heavy snowfall and freezing rain to the southern regions of Poland. The weather took its toll, among others, on the residents of Tarnów.
The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways announced on Sunday morning that all national roads were passable. There are 3,070 units of winter maintenance equipment in operation on the road network. There is slush in many regions.
It snowed in southern Poland
Heavy snowfall that occurred on the night from Saturday to Sunday was brought by a Genoese low. It rained particularly heavily in Małopolska and Podkarpacie. The weather took its toll, among others, on the residents Tarnów. At night, plows and snowblowers appeared on the local roads.
– Not colorful. The roads are not cleared of snow, so you definitely need to check your car. This is not an easy matter, certainly for novice drivers. Winter tires, because it might be difficult with summer tires now that there is 30 centimeters of snow – said a resident of Tarnów.
– The weather conditions were fair. It depends on whether a sandblaster passed somewhere, it was good there, or generally it was a tragedy, really. I got buried several times and couldn’t leave – added another resident of Tarnów.
Slippery roads in Pomerania
Duty officer of the Provincial Roads Authority in Gdańsk Janusz Cnota informed that on Sunday morning 84 vehicles were working on provincial roads – for snow removal and against black ice. All provincial roads in the Pomeranian Voivodeship are passable as part of Winter Road Maintenance. In Bytów, Chojnice, Człuchów, Starogard and Tczew counties, local slipperiness often occurs or prevails. Slush and local slipperiness appear on the roads of the Gdańsk, Wejherowo, Puck, Nowy Dwór, Lębork and Słupsk counties, while in the south of the voivodeship, in the Kościerzyna and Kartuzy counties, heavy snow prevails.
IMWM reported on social media that on Saturday at 7 p.m. there was snow covering the town Zakopane was 25 centimeters. There was 27 cm of snow in Bielsko-Biała, 28 cm in Racibórz, and in Krakow 29 cm.
