When winter comes, heat is at a premium everywhere, but in flood areas it is especially needed. One thousand tons of coal from Caritas Wrocław will heat many houses in Lewin Brzeski and the surrounding area. This is help that people volunteered for. What about help from the government?

Heat in homes is the most important problem in all our needs. – It's a race against time at the moment. There will be snow in a moment, it will be cold – says Leszek Witoń, the village head of Wronowo.

For two days now, the great loading and delivery of “black gold” has been going on, because it is noble help. Caritas Wrocław bought coal for PLN 1,700,000 from contributions from the faithful. It is now reaching a thousand homes. – The most flooded towns were activated first. This is the simplest, cheapest and fastest heating – says a Caritas Wrocław volunteer.

What about the promised benefits?

In Wronowo We were with the “Fakty” TVN camera in mid-October. Now we're back. Mr. Sławomir's effort and the help of his friends change the ruin. However, the man is still on his own, despite the promised benefits for renovation from PLN 100,000 to PLN 200,000.

– Yesterday some ladies came again and asked the same thing. I don't know, it's just fun, now they'll ask questions for five years and then they'll say: “Oh, the statute of limitations has already expired.” Well, I don't know, it was supposed to go smoothly, nothing is happening in this regard. But people in Poland think that we all received PLN 200,000 – says Mr. Sławomir.

The government paid emergency and flood benefits first. Almost PLN 300 million went to 90,000 families. Renovation benefits can help you get back on your feet, but waiting cuts your wings. – At the moment, we are not counting on any miracles of blindness, because no. I'm not entirely convinced that it will be as they say, says Mrs. Jadwiga, a resident of Wronowo.

Marcin Kierwiński, the government's plenipotentiary for post-flood reconstruction, promises that the entire process will speed up. – Now I have the assurance of each of the voivodes, both the voivode of Lower Silesia and the voivode of Opole, because here the scale of these benefits is the largest, that this process will radically accelerate – assures Kierwiński.
