“Winter is still ongoing in the mountains”

Difficult conditions prevail on the tourist routes in the Beskids. The trails are wet and slippery. Rescuers warn those who want to go to the mountains. An avalanche “two” applies in the Tatras.

– The weather is ugly, so the conditions are difficult. Where there is no snow, it is wet. Above 800 m above sea level, its cover increased from 5 cm to even 15 cm in the Miziowa hall. It is on the old layer. Visibility improves. Cloudy was full. We will see what the day will bring, because the forecasts talked about warming, but winter is still in the mountains – said on Saturday the rescuer of the Beskid GOPR group from the station in Szczyrk. At Hala Miziowa, there is 10 to 20 centimeters of snow, it is 18 cm in branded Szczawiny, and in the gable parts of the Babia Góra 60 cm. The first degree of avalanche threat is still in force on Babia Góra. The liberation of snow masses is only possible with high additional load in few places at very steep or extreme slopes. The perć of dormitories is closed, i.e. the yellow trail from the upper flat to Babia Góra. Renovation is underway in the shelter at Szyndzielnia in Bielsko-Biała. You can't spend the night there, but gastronomy is open. The Beskids operate on the cable and stream railway for Żar in Międzybrodzie Żywiec and in the weekend also a sofa to Czantoria in Ustronie. Tourists who go to a journey into higher parts must have warmer clothing, especially waterproof. The phone should be charged and have the “rescue” application installed. It is worth taking a powerbank. The route time, which is indicated on the maps, may be slightly extended in the current conditions. Goprowers call not to go to the trail alone. IN Tatras The second degree of avalanche threat applies.

As reported in the Tatra National Park communication, the snow cover is generally connected well, but on some steep slopes it is moderately bound. Lawina's liberation is usually possible with high additional load, especially on the steep slopes indicated in the avalanche. The spontaneous descent of very large avalanches is unlikely.
