Winter warnings in 10 voivodeships

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management warns against heavy snowfall in the southern reaches of Poland. It will rain until Monday morning. Icy warnings have also been announced for many places.

Forecasters from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued second- and first-degree meteorological warnings on a three-degree, increasing scale.

Second degree IMWM warnings – heavy snowfall

Second degree alerts for heavy snowfall have been issued in the following voivodeships:

  • Lesser Polandin the following counties: Tatra, Nowy Targ, Sucha, Wadowice, Limanowski, Nowy Sącz, Gorlice;
  • Silesianin the following counties: Żywiec, Bielsko, Bielsko-BiałaCieszyn.

Snowfall is forecast, in periods of moderate or heavy intensity, causing an increase in snow cover by 20-30 centimeters, and locally by 40 cm.

The warnings will expire at 8 a.m. on Monday.

First degree IMWM warnings – heavy snowfall

Lower level warnings due to heavy snowfall are in force in the voivodeship Podkarpackiein the following counties: Jasło, Krosno, KrosnoSanok, Lesko and Bieszczady.

In these places, 20 cm, locally 30 cm of snow is expected to fall. The warnings will be valid until 8 on Monday.

First degree IMWM warnings – icing

First degree anti-icing alerts have been issued in the following voivodeships:

  • Pomeranianin eastern counties;
  • Warmian-Masurian Voivodeshipin the west of the voivodeship;
  • Łódź;
  • Masovian Voivodeshipoutside northern counties;
  • Świętokrzyskie;
  • Lublin Provincein the west and south of the voivodeship;
  • Podkarpackiein northern counties;
  • Lesser Polandin the north of the voivodeship;
  • Silesianin the northern part of the region;
  • Opole provincein the following counties: Olesno and Kluczbork.

It is forecast that wet road surfaces and sidewalks will freeze after sleet and wet snow, causing them to become icy. The minimum temperature will be around -2 degrees C, and the minimum temperature at the ground will be around -4 degrees C.

The negative air temperature will remain until Wednesday, but warnings will be in force from Sunday at 4-6 p.m. until Monday midnight, only in some places until 10.
