On Tuesday afternoon, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz met with participants of the ongoing Campus Polska Przyszłości in Olsztyn. When he entered the stage, boos were heard from the audience, as well as the question “Where is abortion?!” shouted repeatedly. Speaking about changes to the law on termination of pregnancy, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense indicated that his group postulates two steps here – first, the adoption of a law restoring the legal status from before 2020, and then calling a referendum.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz met with participants of the ongoing Campus Polska Przyszłości in Olsztyn. When he entered the stage, boos could be heard from the audience, as well as the question “Where is the abortion?!” shouted many times.
Accompanying him at the beginning Rafal Trzaskowski He appealed to those gathered to respect the guest of the Campus and emphasized that everyone has the right to present their views.
Kosiniak-Kamysz on “two steps”
The topic of abortion also appeared in several questions from the audience. – First of all, in my formation (…), there is freedom of choice in matters of worldview. When it comes to the principles of terminating pregnancy, there is a law that is established and it is strictly defined. There are various proposals to change this law. In the 2023 elections, we, as the entire Third Way, said (that there are – ed.) two aspects. First – a return to the principles from before the Constitutional Tribunal's judgment, which took away women's safety and that is why there were mass protests – he said and added that he did not agree with this judgment.
– The second step in this action is to call a referendum. So that not only the majority of men out of 460 members of parliament can have their say, but also millions of women can vote – he emphasized. He added that he would accept the result of the referendum regardless of its outcome.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, in this term of the Sejm it is possible to pass a law that would restore the legal status from before the Constitutional Tribunal's judgment of 2020. According to him, the president would also be willing to sign such a law Andrzej Duda. – And this is more safety (for women – ed.), not less – he said.
Kosiniak-Kamysz on health insurance premium
President PSL was asked how, as a doctor, he can support the solution proposed by his partners within the Third Way from Poland 2050 regarding the reduction of health insurance contributions for entrepreneurs.
Kosiniak-Kamysz replied that the health insurance premium is not “only about health, but about the person who has to pay this health insurance premium”. – About Mrs. Zosia, who runs a greengrocer's, sole proprietorship. (…) And by the government PIS the health insurance premium has been raised so much – not for big businessmen, but for Mrs. Zosia, who runs a grocery store next to the block – that she won't be able to survive if this health insurance premium kills her business activity – said the president of PSL.
The politician also addressed the issue of doctors' earnings. As he stated, he, as deputy prime minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense, earns “very decently,” but “all of his fellow doctors earn more.” “That also needs to be taken into account,” he declared. He declared that he would defend small entrepreneurs and seek their interests in the government. According to him, it is small entrepreneurs who are “often humiliated the most, they don't have vacations, they don't have weekends, they don't have time off, because no one will pay them.”
– Is it necessary to increase spending on healthcare? Yes, we need to increase spending on healthcare. This is a priority for me, (…). This is not only my personal political opinion, but also my Hippocratic oath. Is it necessary to reform the healthcare system to make it more efficient? Yes – declared the deputy prime minister. He pointed out, among other things, the need to rebuild the pharmaceutical industry”.
– This is not about reducing healthcare spending. It's just that if we destroy this small business, no one will pay this health insurance premium. We are heading in the same direction – more money for health, but not at the expense of the most humiliated and hardest working small businesses – added Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Kosiniak-Kamysz on the situation at the border
The Deputy Prime Minister was also asked about the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border.
– On the other side of the border, terrorists are coming who want to attack our house. On the other side, people who killed the sergeant are coming Mateusz Sitek – a hero of the Republic, a soldier of the Polish Army. If there are people on the other side who need help, the border guards provide this help – he said.
– We will not rest until we catch – and I promise this to all families of soldiers of the Polish Army, the Border Guard – we will not rest until we catch and punish the murderers of Polish soldiers. This is my responsibility – emphasized the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
– The constitution obliges us to protect our borders. We must take care of our home. We will not allow our home to be destroyed by regimes that wish us the worst, that want to destroy our civilization, democracy and freedom. We will not allow this and we will radically counteract it – he announced and indicated that other countries, for example Finlandare introducing principles of defending their own borders similar to those in Poland.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also admitted that recently in Europe there has been an “unbelievable wave of sabotage, diversion and attacks on various types of objects”. He pointed out that such incidents occur, among others, in Germany, Czech Republicon Lithuaniain France. – If we want future generations to have the opportunity to implement their ideas, we must protect our vision of the world – he emphasized.
The Minister referred to Friday's meeting of Campus participants with Prime Minister Tusk, who was also asked about the situation on the border with Belarus. He assured that together with Tusk they speak with one voice and will support each other in this matter.
