The Left will submit a bill aimed at using two million vacant properties, said the leader of the Left, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, on Saturday. He announced that his group will also try to implement all applications for the construction of apartments for cheap rental submitted by local governments in 2023-2024.
During the Left's convention “Housing is a Right, Not a Commodity,” which is taking place in Krakow on Saturday, Czarzasty announced that the Left will soon begin a discussion with local government officials on the “wise use of vacant properties.” He added that the Left's goal is to use vacant properties in such a way that the solutions satisfy both apartment owners and tenants.
– I am announcing it without details, but I am announcing: The Left will submit a project to use two million vacant properties in Poland so that both the owners of the apartments and those who will rent them are happy – he said.
The Left Does Not Want Loan Subsidies
According to the leader of the Left, subsidies for loans are not a good solution to the problem of the lack of apartments in Poland, because they contribute to the increase in apartment prices and generate profits for developers and banks. He assured that when it comes to housing, the Left has never paid attention to “support columns”, but to the interests of people, especially young people. – We want to build cheap apartments for cheap rental. We have seen 222 thousand such apartments built in Vienna. It works, it can function – he assessed. According to Czarzasty, cheap apartments for rent are a good solution for people who do not have creditworthiness. He noted that such apartments can remain in one family for generations. – We will do everything to ensure that all applications submitted by local governments for the construction of apartments for cheap rental in 2023 and 2024 are implemented – he announced. – I know that this is an important and responsible promise, but I know what I am talking about – he added. The leader of the Left emphasized that for his group “housing is a right, not a commodity”.
