We will be against the referendum on migration, said Włodzimierz Czarzasty, deputy speaker of the Sejm and co-chairman of the New Left, in “Rozmowie Piaseckiego” on TVN24. PiS has submitted a draft amendment to the act, which provides for the introduction of solutions enabling the referendum to be held on the same day as the parliamentary elections. Czarzasty assessed that “this is done only because of the elections”.

Law and Justice MPs submitted to the Sejm a draft amendment to the Act on the National Referendum. The proposed changes assume the introduction of solutions enabling the referendum to be held on the same day as, for example, parliamentary elections. As we read in the justification for the project, it is primarily about unifying voting hours. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki confirmed at a press conference that the government plans to hold parliamentary elections and a referendum on the relocation of migrants at the same time.

Co-chairman of the New Left Vladimir Czarzasty he was asked whether the matter of the fact that this referendum will take place and that it will dominate the election campaign has just been decided. – I think so, and I think it’s a big mess. I think it is so that it is done only because of the elections – he replied.

– We have a unanimous decision of our party, the board. We will be against this referendum. We will not draw cards, we will not hold back.

He was asked how the Left would behave once the referendum was announced. – You have to start with the question that will be asked, but secondly, you have to start with the thing about which I am convinced. The opposition should come to an agreement on this matter and speak with one voice, he assessed.

– On the part of the Left, we are very open to it, because you cannot speak with different voices on this matter – he added.

He emphasized that “European Union does not want to impose anything on Poland, therefore it is difficult to participate in a lie.

Czarzasty: Poland needs a reasonable migration policy

Czarzasty said that Poland needed a reasonable migration policy. – There are fewer 550,000 Poles than there were eight years ago. People die faster (…) Less than 50,000 children are born every year, he noted.

When asked if he suggested that without economic migrants the Polish economy would cease to cope, he confirmed. – It just needs to be said clearly and precisely. Each person is to be checked at the border before being admitted, he added.

As he said, “qualifications, life, what was before coming to Poland, all matters related to the behavior of this person” should be checked.

When asked whether the services are able to check thousands of people, Czarzasty replied that “if we do not check, we have a problem, because we will lead to what can be caused by a bad migration policy.”

– As part of the migration policy, one thing must be done so that these people do not lower the salaries of similar professions in Poland with their work – he added.

– The left should always take care of the Polish labor market. I do not agree that there should be a situation to scare Polish workers because someone will come from the west or the east – he said.

He assessed that “no force (political-ed.) wants to talk about a reasonable, wise migration policy.”
