Police officers in Wólka Kosowska and Tarczyn detained three men. They seized almost 300,000 e-cigarettes, which contained over 4,600 liters of liquid. They estimated that the black market value of the goods was over PLN 17 million, and the State Treasury was to lose PLN 5 million due to unpaid tax.

Police officers from the Warsaw Economic Crime Department have discovered people who were introducing significant quantities of e-cigarettes into circulation without Polish excise duty stamps.

The officers visited Wólka Kosowska a few days ago. “There they noticed how the men they were interested in drove an Opel into the container storage area in Tarczyn and unpacked large quantities of cardboard boxes into a box, then drove away and returned to the warehouse from which they had come,” Edyta Adamus from the Warsaw Police Headquarters described in a statement.

Cigarettes for 17 million

The police took action when the men drove up to another container. They suspected that it might contain more goods. Their suspicions turned out to be correct.

“Two Indian citizens, aged 37 and 32, were putting cardboard boxes into a container, which turned out to be filled with e-cigarettes. They had transported the same goods a moment earlier to Tarczyn, where the police detained a 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen,” Adamus explained.

Officers discovered that the same goods were located in another warehouse near the containers. “After counting the total seized goods, it turned out that they are almost 300 thousand e-cigarettes containing over 4 thousand 600 liters of e-cigarette liquid (liquid) without Polish excise stamps,” Adamus emphasized. As she added, the losses of the State Treasury due to unpaid excise tax amount to over PLN 5 million, and the black market value of the seized goods amounts to PLN 17 million.

They heard the charges

The men were detained. They were charged in the District Prosecutor's Office in Piaseczno with evading the obligation to tax goods and thus depleting the State Treasury due to unpaid excise duty. They face a penalty of a fine or imprisonment.

The proceedings in this case are supervised by the District Prosecutor's Office in Piaseczno.
