The body of a 57-year-old woman was found in the baggage section of the Chicago airport, according to American media. According to the fire department, she “got tangled” in a conveyor belt used to transport passengers' luggage. The exact circumstances of the death are being determined.
The incident occurred on Thursday at Chicago O'Hare Airport. According to the local fire department, at 7:45 a.m., emergency services were called to Terminal 5 in connection with a report of a woman who was “trapped in the aircraft.” Upon arrival, it turned out that the woman was “entangled in a baggage belt.” She was found by an airport employee who was checking the baggage section of the airport hall.
The authorities said the woman died at the scene, although they did not provide the exact cause of her death. They did not provide her identity. It is known that she was 57 years old and did not work at the airport.

Police reported that surveillance footage shows the woman at 2:27 a.m. entering the airport's baggage area, where the belts carrying travelers' luggage to and from planes are located. The public is not allowed to enter this area, but as described by the media, it is not subject to an increased level of security.
There was no one in the area at the time. However, the cameras did not record the exact course of the tragedy that happened next. It is not known what happened to the woman for the next five hours, until her body was found.
Police spokesman Nathaniel Blackman, quoted by the Guardian, explained that no one watched the cameras in real time and investigators reviewed the footage only after the body was found.
