Participants of the 18th “Count with Diabetes” run as part of the 32nd Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity have to cover a five-kilometer route. All proceeds from the run will be used to purchase insulin pumps for pregnant women with diabetes.
The “Count with Diabetes” run accompanies the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity for the 18th time. “The participants of the run support the Personal Insulin Pump Treatment Program for Pregnant Women with Diabetes implemented by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. The funds from the starting packages are allocated to the purchase of insulin pumps, thanks to which diabetics have a chance for a safe and peaceful pregnancy,” says the WOŚP Foundation in a press release.
“Thanks to the ‘Count with Diabetes’ runs organized by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity in 2014-2022, we purchased 272 insulin pumps for pregnant women with diabetes. We intend to purchase approximately 76 pumps with the funds collected during the 17th Run,” says the foundation.
A five-kilometer route
The 18th “Cope with Diabetes” run was preceded by a joint warm-up organized in front of the main stage on the grounds of the National Stadium. The competitors started after 11.40 from the heart of the WOŚP town, located near the Warszawa Stadion railway station. Runners have to cover a five-kilometer route leading through the following streets: Sokola, Zamość, across the Świętokrzyski Bridge (turn at Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie), Wybrzeże Szczecińskie, Siwca to the finish line on the PGE Narodowy grounds.
Due to the race route, some bus lines were diverted. The changes concern lines: 102, 125, 202, 146, 147, 162 (in both directions), 118 (only towards Mariensztat) and 127 (only towards Browarna).
For people who did not manage to register for the 18th run in Warsaw, WOŚP also organized a Virtual Run, in which anyone interested can take part. “The Virtual Run of the 32nd Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity will take place on January 22 – 28, 2024. You run wherever you want and as long as you want, but the minimum distance is 5 km,” says the WOŚP website.
