This is certainly one of the records of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. In Krakow, PLN 100,000 was placed in two cans. From one donor. “It was something amazing,” say the volunteers.
The 32nd final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity is underway. Today, over 100,000 volunteers collect money for WOŚP on the streets of Polish cities, and thousands of auctions take place on the Internet. In line with the goal of this year’s collection “Lungs after the pandemic” the funds will be used to purchase equipment “for the diagnosis, monitoring and rehabilitation of lung diseases of patients in pulmonary departments for children and adults.” The finale is accompanied by a slogan “Everything is OK here!” All the most important events throughout the day will be broadcast or reported on TVN, TTV, TVN24 and on the tvn24.pl website.
Volunteers with golden retrievers
Someone put PLN 100,000 into two cans on the Market Square in Krakow. Jurek Owsiak personally announced this at the conference.
“#Krakow PLN 100,000 in two cans! @fundacjawosp @WOSPKrakow” – it was written on Krakow’s profile and a video of opening the cans and counting the cash was posted.
– This gentleman approached the volunteers who were in the Market Square with golden retrievers, dogs involved in the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity campaign. He said he had been collecting money for three years to reach the round sum. He started putting hundreds of them into one can. The money didn’t fit, so a second can was needed, said Edyta Biel, the head of the Krakow staff of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP).
After counting at the WOŚP headquarters, it turned out that one can contained 23,000. PLN 998 and 46 groszy, and in the second one – PLN 76,000. PLN 367, 52 gr.
“It was something amazing”
More details were revealed to kraków.pl television by volunteers Renata and Ola.
– An older man approached me and asked if we could talk discreetly. He had quite a large sum to give. He didn’t want to do it on the forum. He started putting money into the can, but it didn’t fit. That’s how Ola joined us with the second can – says Renata.
– It was something amazing. I always say so much, but now I didn’t know what to say – added Ola.
The donor did not identify himself. – The volunteers were so shocked that they didn’t ask anything – added the chief of staff.
In the evening, a recording appeared on YouTube in which the famous creator revealed that he was dressed as an elderly man and handed out PLN 100,000 to volunteers.
On Sunday, eight thousand volunteers collected money in Krakow.
