On Saturday, the head of WOŚP, Jerzy Owsiak, visited Lądek Zdrój in Lower Silesia and the Peace Patrol point operating there. Previously, he visited Piotrków Trybunalski (Łódź Voivodeship), where he talked about aid activities for flood victims organized by the foundation.
On Saturday, the head of WOŚP met with the mayor of Lądek Zdrój, where he visited the Peace Patrol point organized in the city destroyed by water.
– He is already active on the street. Moniuszko and was organized so that people who want to help locally and contact us have a base for a few days from which they can travel to smaller towns. There are sleeping containers and a tent that serves as a warehouse. The purchased equipment goes there. Together with the company that supports us at the Poland Rock festival, we installed temporary shower cabins and toilets in Lądek Zdrój and Stronie Śląskie. We also want to provide laundry facilities, and we also have sets of notebooks and school supplies ready, said Owsiak.
WOŚP for flood victims
Our collection account for activities related to the fight against the effects of the flood has already reached nearly PLN 24 million, the head of WOŚP announced on Saturday. Jerzy Owsiak. He added that equipment needed for flooded areas is currently being purchased – dehumidifiers, heaters, generators, pumps and pressure washers.
– At this moment, our fundraising account balance is PLN 23,923,789.81. Of this we spent PLN 14,026,842.11. Currently, we are focusing on purchasing the necessary equipment, such as heaters, generators, dryers, submersible pumps, and pressure washers, he said.
He pointed out, among other things, that the foundation has so far purchased 1,973 dehumidifiers, 6,742 heaters, 800 aggregates, 250 submersible pumps and 1,060 pressure washers. – These are also wheelbarrows and geotextiles, which were needed in the construction of flood embankments and saved Brzeg Dolny – he added.
Food, water and cleaning products
Owsiak emphasized that the WOŚP Foundation released PLN 40 million of its funds in the first days of the flood, including: for the purchase of basic necessities. 24 trucks with food, bottled water and cleaning products were sent to the flooded areas.
– We also want to use this money to purchase flooded medical equipment in hospitals in Nysa, Kłodzko and Głuchołazy. In total, the value of the equipment donated there by WOŚP in recent years, including the equipment used to fight sepsis, was almost PLN 11 million, and we will definitely buy this equipment. On October 2, we will deliver a mobile computed tomography scanner to the hospital in Nysa, which we have rented for 30 days, he noted.
