23-year-old Damian B., suspected of shooting an eight-year-old boy in one of Wrocław’s yards, heard the charges, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław informed on Tuesday. The man is threatened with up to five years in prison. The application for pre-trial detention was rejected by the court, but decided on other preventive measures.
The boy was shot with a pneumatic weapon on Friday (15 July) after 5 p.m. in the vicinity of Prądzyńskiego and Łukasińskiego Streets in Przedmieście Oławskie in Wrocław. The police did not receive the report from the child’s guardians until Saturday.
The boy had to undergo surgery
The victim was taken to the University Teaching Hospital at ul. Borowska in Wrocław to the Department of Pediatric Surgery. There, during the computed tomography of the chest, a metallic body was revealed at the level of the boy’s third rib.
The boy had to undergo an operation under anesthesia, during which the shots were removed from his body .. – The wound was superficial and his life and health are no longer in danger – Rafał Jarząb from the press office of the Wrocław police said on Sunday.
Charges for the 23-year-old
On Saturday, Damian B., suspected of having shot a child, was arrested. – He is a 23-year-old resident of Wrocław. He was imprisoned in a room for detainees – said Jarząb at the time.
On Monday, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, the court questioned the boy in the presence of a psychologist. A ballistic opinion and an opinion on the severity of injuries sustained by the victim were also prepared. After these actions, the District Prosecutor’s Office for Wrocław Krzyki Wschód presented Damian B. with accusations of violation of the organs of the victim’s body for more than 7 days, exposure to immediate danger of loss of life or serious damage to health, and escaping from the scene without helping the victim.
The man is threatened with up to 5 years in prison for the alleged actions.
The court rejected the arrest application
According to investigators’ findings, Damian B. fired a 4.5 mm Kandar S3 air pistol in a place not intended for professional firing at a minor standing on the firing line, hitting him in the chest.
The prosecutor’s office filed a motion with the court for pre-trial detention against the suspect. The investigators justified the request with the fear of procedural fraud. The court, however, made a different decision on Tuesday. – He decided to apply preventive measures to the suspect in the form of police supervision, a ban on leaving the place of residence, a ban on approaching and contacting the victim and witnesses and a ban on possessing any kind of weapons – said Małgorzata Dziewońska, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław
The boy’s condition is so good that he was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.
