The Lower Silesian Voivode convened a meeting of the Provincial Crisis Management Team in connection with the detection of a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak. A highly contagious viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals was recorded in Germany, near the border with Poland.
On Saturday, January 11, the Voivode of Lower Silesia, Anna Żabska, convened a meeting of the Provincial Crisis Management Team in connection with the sighting on the border with Poland, in the Federal Republic of Germanfoot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks. It is a type of highly contagious viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals.
“The subject of the meeting was the discussion by the Lower Silesian Provincial Veterinary Officer of the description of the disease and possible sources of infection and transmission. It was also emphasized that the virus is not dangerous to humans,” we read in a statement from the Lower Silesian Provincial Office in Wrocław.
As the office adds, the voivodeship's preparedness in the event of possible disease outbreaks was assessed and the actions that could be taken in the event of the first cases of the disease being discovered in the voivodeship were discussed.
Żabska appealed to the services for intensified monitoring and supervision in this respect.
