The head of the Lower Silesian police wants to recognize a security employee of the Wrocław zoo for helping to detain Maksymilian F., suspected of shooting policemen. – The zoo employee’s perceptiveness and vigilance indirectly contributed to locating the perpetrator – said staff aspirant Łukasz Dutkowiak, spokesman for the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. The reward of PLN 100,000 announced by the Chief of Police is to be divided among police officers participating in search and rescue operations.
Maksymilian F. was detained on Saturday after 9 a.m. by Lower Silesian police officers who – as told by Asp. staff. Dutkowiak – they recognized him, chased him and overpowered him. As the interlocutor told tvn24.pl, one of the security staff of the Wrocław Zoo had an indirect involvement in this.
– Before 8 a.m. he gave us information about a person moving in the garden area. This signal was significant, although Maksymilian F. was ultimately captured on another part of the Big Island about an hour later. Therefore, we are talking about indirect assistance in arrest – said a spokesman for the Wrocław police.
Łukasz Dutkowiak said that the Provincial Police Commander in Wrocław, Superintendent Dariusz Wesołowski, wants to recognize the zoo employee. – No decision has been made yet as to what form this distinction will take. However, we would like to emphasize that such a quick arrest of a dangerous and armed criminal could have been achieved thanks to the openness, vigilance and readiness to cooperate on the part of the city’s inhabitants – says the tvn24.pl interlocutor.
Reward from the police chief to be shared
During the raid, the police offered a reward of PLN 100,000 for revealing the whereabouts of a 44-year-old man who on Friday evening allegedly injured two policemen transporting him with a firearm.
“In connection with the shooting of two policemen in Wrocław, whose condition is very serious, the Chief Commander of the Police is on site in Wrocław and supervising the activities, who has announced a reward of PLN 100,000 for indicating the whereabouts of Maksymilian F.” – said the press spokesman of the Police Headquarters, Insp. Mariusz Ciarka.
Today it is known that no one from outside the police will receive this award. – After Maksymilian F. was detained, we analyzed all the signals that reached us. It turned out that none of them directly contributed to the detention of the 44-year-old – said Asp. staff. Dutkowiak.
So what will happen to the money? A police spokesman told us that the funds will be divided among officers who participate in search and rescue operations on a daily basis. – Details have not been determined yet. However, we want all those who risk their health or life every day for the public good to be recognized – said Ciarka.
When asked whether and how the police who detained Maksymilian F. will be rewarded, the spokesman replies that “it is in no way certain.” – We assume that they have fulfilled the tasks entrusted to them. They were in the right place, at the right time and made good, brave decisions. We get paid for this every day. However, this does not mean that police officers will not receive any reward – emphasized the spokesman of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
