On Saturday, the Holy See issued a statement on the punishment of Archbishop Marian Gołębiewski in connection with the clergyman’s negligence in cases of sexual abuse of minors by his subordinate priests. Now, Member of the Left, Krzysztof Śmiszek, has applied to the prosecutor’s office to initiate an investigation against the retired clergyman.
The Holy See punished Archbishop. Marian Gołębiewski in connection with the neglect of pedophilia. She commanded him to lead a life of repentance and prayer; forbade participation in any public, church and secular ceremonies and ordered a donation to the Foundation of St. Józef for the prevention and accompaniment of victims of sexual abuse.
In the announcement published on the website of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, we read that “acting on the basis of the provisions of the Code of Canon Law and the motu proprio of Pope Francis’ Vos estis lux mundi ‘, the Holy See – following formal applications – conducted proceedings concerning the reported negligence of Archbishop Marian Gołębiewski in cases sexual abuse of minors by some priests from the Koszalin-Kołobrzeg diocese, during his episcopal ministry (1996-2004), and from the Wrocław archdiocese (2004-2013) “.
The deputy applies to the prosecutor’s office
In reaction to the recent events surrounding Archbishop Marian Gołębiowski, Krzysztof Śmiszek, a Leftist from Wrocław, asked the District Prosecutor in Wrocław to reopen the case.
“It seems that such a radical decision of the Holy See towards Marian Gołębiewski had to be dictated by very serious findings in the course of the investigation conducted by the Vatican authorities. This should be a strong signal to the Polish prosecutor’s office that there were serious irregularities and violations of the domestic public in our country. legal order “- wrote MP Śmiszek in the application to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław.
The parliamentarian assessed that the community of Lower Silesia and the whole of Poland expected the prosecutor’s office to respond appropriately to reports of breaking the law in our country, regardless of whether the person against whom the allegations are made is a clergyman or a secular.
“I would also like to remind you that in May 2019 I submitted a notification to the local prosecutor’s office about the suspicion of committing a crime by Archbishop Gołębiewski – the proceedings were not initiated. The case concerned events from 7 years ago, including the famous case of priest Paweł K. from 2005, who was convicted for rape and molesting minors. In the light of the above-mentioned new findings and circumstances, I request that the case be reopened “- wrote the MP.
Allegations of covering up pedophilia
Archbishop Gołębiewski was one of the clergymen who appeared in the famous document of the Sekielski brothers “Just do not tell anyone”. In the film, a clergyman was accused of taking part in covering up cases of pedophilia among priests.
The spring politicians reported the possibility of committing a crime in the case of Archbishop Gołębiewski in May 2019. In their opinion, the hierarch was to know about the pedophile acts of the former priest Paweł K. and did not notify the prosecutor’s office about it. Paweł K. was convicted of rape and molesting minors.
In connection with reaching the retirement age, on May 18, 2013, Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Archbishop. Marian Gołębiewski from the duties of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Wrocław.
The clergyman was a member of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Travelers, a member of the Permanent Council of the Polish Episcopate, the chairman of the Council for the Apostolate of the Laity, the chairman of the KEP Team for Social Aspects of the Enthronement of Christ the King, a member of the Scientific Council of the KEP, a member of the Faith Doctrine Commission, and within it the chairman of the section Nauk Biblijnych, a member of the Bishops’ Team for Pastoral Care for Radio Maryja, and a member of the KEP Economic Council.
