Wrocław police officers found a senior citizen who slipped off the flood embankment and lay right next to the water table for several hours. The 75-year-old was taken to hospital. The City Hall office would like to remind you that in Wrocław it is still prohibited to travel on the flood embankments.
The incident took place on Tuesday, September 24 in the evening in Wrocław. Police officers patrolling the areas adjacent to the Odra River noticed a bag and a plastic bag located right next to the embankments. When they got closer, they noticed a senior citizen lying at the bottom, right next to the water. “The man was cold, but conscious and communicative. The 75-year-old confessed that he fell on the top of the embankment and then slid down, unfortunately bumping heavily along the way. The senior complained of back and head pain, and his body was visible. abrasions and wounds,” he says aspirant Paweł Noga from the Wrocław police.
The police covered him with an emergency blanket and called an ambulance. The 75-year-old was transported to hospital.
The water in the Oder is slowly falling, but the flood embankments are still not a good place for walks. When soaked in water, they may pose a threat to walkers. In Wrocław, it is prohibited to enter flood embankments until further notice.
Driving on flood embankments is prohibited
“Wrocław city guards issue fines to people who violate the categorical ban on driving on flood embankments. The maximum fine amount is PLN 500. However, the court may impose a fine of up to PLN 5,000,” the Press Office of the Wrocław City Hall reported in a press release.
“Moving along the embankments may damage them and directly exposes residents to danger. The embankments are constantly monitored by the services,” he adds.
