Wrocław. The culminating wave in the city

The city office's press office reported that according to the latest indications, the Odra's level is 636 cm. “This is more than the initial models predicted by IMGW assumed, but the situation in the city itself is stable. At the moment, no incidents related to sudden overflows of the Odra have been recorded,” we read.

The President of Polish Waters said at the crisis headquarters in Wrocław that the Odra is 26 centimeters short (data from 7:00) to launch the Odra-Widawa canal. This will allow the water level in the city to be lowered.

Prime minister Donald Tusk he noted that it is much too early to announce that the flood in Wrocław has been overcome. – I would prefer that we hold on nervously and try to guess this trend as accurately as possible, so that we can inform Wrocław residents precisely – he said.

The city's president, Jacek Sutryk, said that the water level on the Małgorzata weir is high enough that water is being pumped from one side to the other. – The idea is to protect Wrocław from the backwater of the Oława River. There are also many grassroots initiatives by residents in the city, who are strengthening the flood embankments – he added.

The most difficult situation is in Marszowice. There, work was underway all night to strengthen the flood embankments. Soldiers WOT Together with the residents, they placed new sandbags to protect the area from flooding.

“The works are going according to plan, with further supplies of sand gradually arriving at the site,” the press office of the Wrocław City Hall assured.

– We have two seepages on the embankment. One has already been repaired, the other is being repaired. Soldiers and firefighters are working here, but many Wrocław residents are also taking part. People from all over Wrocław have come here and are working, defending Wrocław – said Tomasz Sikora from the city office at around 2 a.m.

– Two seepages were recorded (in the Bystrzyca Valley). No overflow over the embankments, but after some time the embankments seep through. Emergency services have been dispatched here – said the mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, who was on site at around 2 a.m.

– I have just spoken to the commander of this operation on the side of the State Fire Service. He says that they have the situation under control – he added.

As the officer on duty at the provincial commandant's office of the State Fire Service in Wrocław said, the embankments are being sealed all the time. – We are sealing them all the time, but they are not leaking. We are keeping an eye on it – the officer on duty emphasized.
