At the railroad crossing, a speeding Honda overtook an unmarked police car. The driver was arrested shortly thereafter. As it turned out, the 30-year-old was drunk and has a court disqualification from driving. Now he faces a very heavy fine and up to five years in prison.
Damian Wroczyński, the press officer of the Wyszków police, informed that on Friday evening local police officers patrolled the streets of Wyszków with an unmarked police car. approx. 9.30 p.m., when they crossed the railway crossing on ul. Świętojańska, they were overtaken by a speeding Honda.
Drunk, no driver’s license
The driver was detained for roadside inspection.
– The breathalyzer test showed 1.8 per mille of alcohol in the 30-year-old’s body – said the spokesman. And after checking the police bases, it turned out that the schoolboy has a court ban on driving motor vehicles.
Now, the fate of the man will be decided by the court again. For driving while intoxicated and driving a car despite the ban, he is liable to imprisonment for up to five years and a large fine. He also has to take into account that he will be banned from driving for life. There will also be a penalty for overtaking at a railway crossing,” added the press officer.
“Even the smallest amount of alcohol…”
Drunk drivers are potential killers on the road and can also lose their lives in an accident. Even the smallest amount of alcohol consumed reduces the driver’s reaction speed, causes him to misjudge speed, distance and his own skills, the police officer noted.
Overtaking at a railway crossing and directly in front of it is punishable by a fine of PLN 1,000. This is an offense covered by the double fine rule. This means that drivers who commit one of the offenses listed in the regulations for the second time within two years will receive a fine twice as high as the amount from the tariff, i.e. PLN 2,000 in this case. Exactly the same penalties are provided for overtaking when crossing the tracks tram lines or directly in front of them.
