The 34-year-old grandson physically and mentally abused his disabled grandmother – officers from Wyszków (Mazowieckie) established. The aggressor also allegedly destroyed her mobile phone so that she could not call for help. There were numerous bruises on the 80-year-old’s body.

The incident was reported to the Wyszków police over the weekend. According to the report, a drunken grandson started a fight with his 80-year-old grandmother, who was unable to walk. The officers went to the indicated place, in one of the villages near Wyszków.

The senior’s family was intimidated – Damian Wroczyński from the Poviat Police Headquarters in Wyszków described the ordeal of the old woman.

According to the uniform, when someone stood up for a woman, he was called out and even beaten. – When the senior’s daughter brought her food, he ate it, which made the 80-year-old often hungry – Wroczyński added in the communiqué.

The police said that despite the fear and suffering of the 80-year-old woman, she explained: “this is my grandson, also a man, he must eat.” “It shows how much love she had for her grandson, and he reciprocated with great pain. He also underestimated the good conditions in the house where he lives. He didn’t even want to move to his mother’s house because there was no comfortable toilet there. Everyone in the family was afraid of him and they were helpless. Police officers have not encountered such brutal treatment of a family member for a long time – admitted Damian Wroczyński. And he added that his colleagues lacked words to describe the senior woman’s home horror.

Due to the suspicion of psychological and physical violence, the 34-year-old was isolated from his grandmother and placed in a police cell.

– At the time of arrest, he had more than 2 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. After a night spent at the Poviat Police Headquarters in Wyszków, the man heard a prosecutor’s allegation of abuse of a senior woman, the police officer added. The collected material allowed the police officers and the prosecutor to apply to the judiciary for the application of the strictest preventive measure. On Tuesday, the District Court in Wyszków agreed with the investigators’ request and ruled that the next three months a resident of the Wyszków district will spend behind bars. For this crime, the Penal Code provides for up to five years in prison.

“Domestic violence is not a private matter”

The police ensure that people who use violence have a “zero tolerance” policy.

They also appeal not to tolerate domestic violence, because it is not a private matter. It is a crime punishable by law. Abusing, beating and harming loved ones is a crime, just like violence against strangers.

They also ask people who witness violence to notify the police or the nearest social welfare center.
