The owners of the Puchaczówka Foundation in Wyszonowice (Lower Silesia) are dealing with the consequences of New Year’s Eve fireworks. Due to the noise of gunshots, animals died in the shelter: a billy goat and two birds.
The Puchaczówka Wild Animal Treatment and Rehabilitation Center Foundation announced on social media the death of three of its patients. A billy goat and two birds did not survive the New Year’s Eve gunshots.
– I would like to say: happy new year. Normal people, normal and empathetic. And to those who allowed themselves to shoot at the deer farm – congratulations. I don’t know if that was your intention. You killed the goat, the one that was supposed to go free. In panic, the boy ran into the net. In addition, you successfully killed a buzzard that was also about to be released. And a sparrowhawk. Happy New Year – said Marcin Marzec from the Puchaczówka Wild Animal Treatment and Rehabilitation Center Foundation on January 1 on social media.
As the co-owner of the Puchaczówka Foundation says, the explosion of a firecracker for animals is something unexpected. At first the animals become quiet, listen, then start running away like a goat.
– I recorded the moment when someone shot me while I was running behind the deer farm. Someone set off a pyrotechnic set. It started flashing, it started shooting. Fortunately, most of the deer were in the second part of the pen. But this one got scared, ran away and in panic hit the fence, breaking his neck – says Marcin Marzec in an interview with TVN 24.
He adds: – The birds died due to stress. The buzzard couldn’t stand it because its condition was not good either. It was a bird that was brought to the foundation after an accident.
Foundation employees point out that last year no one thought of shooting close to animals. However, they do not rule out that someone could have come and deliberately shot near the pen. – People know that there are animals here, a farm. This is a small village near the forest. You can’t help but notice it, says Marzec.
