Yellow dust on cars. Dust from the Sahara reaches Poland. When will it appear? IMWM forecast

Dust from the Sahara will probably reach our country on Friday, reports the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management. Its highest concentration is expected, among others, in south-eastern Poland.

Air flows into Central Europe from the south. As tvnmeteo.pl forecaster Arleta Unton-Pyziołek explains, the high pressure over the eastern part of the continent and low pressure systems over western and southern Europe created a direct path for these air masses to penetrate high latitudes.

– Poland thus found itself in an air stream heavily polluted with dust and fine sand, the source of which is in North Africa, specifically in Libya and Egypt – explains the forecaster. – A stronger wind blowing there, or even storms sand clouds, raise clouds of dust high into the atmosphere, and air currents at an altitude of about three to five kilometers, today oriented south-north, direct dust straight from the Sahara towards us – he explains.

The presence of sand grains in the air may cause some surfaces to become dirty. Yellow dust settles on car bodies, for example.

The forecast presented by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management on Thursday evening shows that Saharan dust is expected to reach the southern and central parts of the country on Friday.

As explained, “at the head of the dust cloud the concentration will be lower.” “Further simulations show that the maximum dust concentration should occur in the eastern and north-eastern parts of the country,” he said IMWM.
