Yemen. US forces shot down two missiles fired from areas controlled by Houthi fighters

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on social media that American forces shot down two missiles fired from areas of Yemen controlled by fighters of the pro-Iranian Houthi movement towards a merchant ship in the Red Sea.

Information about this appeared on Saturday (December 30) on the platform X of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).

Flying under the flag Singaporea container ship owned by a Danish company, reported that it had been hit by a missile, and the American ships USS Gravely and USS Laboon responded to the report.

“USS Gravely shot down two ballistic anti-ship missiles fired from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen,” it said. It was noted that this was the 23rd “illegal Houthi attack” on international shipping since November 19.

CENTCOM cited reports that the attacked ship was seaworthy and there were no reports of any injuries.

Houthi fighters present their attacks as a form of support for the Palestinian Hamas resistance against the invasion of the Gaza Strip by Israeli forces. It occurred in response to the brutal attack by Hamas on Israel October 7.
