Snails are underway. How much can you earn?
This year, you can earn for a collection of a kilo up to PLN 7 (together with shells). “Loved collectors who know where to look for snails can gather up to 10 kg in an hour” – I'm writing “Fact”. IN provinceswhere the collection is allowed, limits have been introduced. As we read, in Kujawsko-Pomorskie the total mass of snails obtained this season cannot exceed 140 tons. “Fakt” reports that in this province the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection (RDOÅš) has published this season only two permits for the collection (There were five of them a year ago). However, RDOÅš in WrocÅ‚aw published Eight decisions. Season for a collection of wild snails He started on April 20 and lasts until May 31. Molluscs can only be collected for 30 days a year. The harvest can only include individuals with a shell diameter above 30 mm. Permission is also required Regional Director of Environmental Protection.
Companies are considering snail imports
RDOÅš more and more often prohibits the collections of Winniczków due to the decreasing population. In some voivodships, collections are prohibited, which is why companies are looking for other opportunities to buy snails. – We will buy in other regions, It is very possible that we will also import. There will certainly be less raw material and higher costs – said Tomasz Perczak in an interview with “Fakt”, owner Warmex from Wielbark.
Decrease in the snail population vineyard
The Regional Director of Environmental Protection in Olsztyn decided to suspend the set of vineyards in 2024-2025 due to the weakening of the Winniczek snail population. In recent years, a decrease in a mollusc tonnage in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship has been observed. In the years 2018-2023 it was obtained from 39 tons to 111.5 tons of vineyardswhile in the years 2012-2013 the harvest was about 240 tonsand in 2011 it was even 410 tons. RDOÅš explained that the decision was made because of the need to protect vineyards. “In 2023, i.e. in the last year, when the collection was possible, we issued only 21 permits; in earlier years from 40 to even 90” – we read in the communiqué.
