Radzińska: young people feel the power of their opposition

Jowita Radzińska stated on TVN24 that young people who want to take part in the march on June 4 “have hope and a sense of agency” – Values are motivating and drive action. It is very good that these people are not tired, that they are not powerless, that they do not have enough, they feel the power of their opposition – she added.

– Even if we have this problem that young people do not engage in politics, the question is whether it is a diagnosis of young people or a diagnosis of politics. (…) This is more a question for people involved in politics, what should they change to encourage young people to actively participate. (…) Or maybe it’s not the young who are the problem? They are active, they can, when it comes to the climate, they showed what they are capable of, she said.

– If we look more broadly at the social context, at what resources we have at our disposal, the mere fact of involvement is something great. Everyone is busy, everyone has all kinds of limitations, young people too, they study intensively, work, are involved in a lot of activities, and yet they find the strength and time to do something, she said. – There are also people who act constantly, constantly, not only reactively, but create foundations, create associations, create scientific circles. (…) There is also a large group that needs an impulse – she added.

Radzińska: young people are not numerically strong, they have to show strength in a different way

The sociologist assessed that “looking at numbers and demographics, young people are not the electorate that is the strongest, to which, pardon the term, it pays to address with your politics, with your proposals.” – They really have to be strong, even if they are not numerically strong, they have to, or maybe they want to, show their strength in a different way, in a substantive way that is worth getting interested in. There is no other option, she said.

There’s an emotion called disgust. (…) When it comes to such moral stimulation, it is very important. The moment when something really discourages us, activates biological mechanisms, disgusts – said the ethicist, adding that young people “feel these terms we are talking about, they say: I’ve had enough”.
