Żabka has launched its first pilot store at a petrol station, informed the company. As indicated in the Monday’s announcement, this is a new format of outlets, next to the seasonal, mobile and self-service branches. Earlier, Auchan Retail Polska and the BP concern informed about the commencement of cooperation on the Polish market.
The pilot store was launched at the Rakieta petrol station, located in Krosno in the Mosina commune in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. “The launch of the first, pilot Żabka at the gas station is another step towards providing customers with the greatest possible comfort of shopping, and for franchisees with unique locations, generating a large number of customers and adequate turnover” – said Tomasz Suchański, CEO of Żabka Group, quoted in the release.
It is not known whether the store will also be open on non-trading Sundays. “Small stores may operate on days subject to trade restrictions on the basis of an exemption for entrepreneurs selling on their own account, which is also used by Żabka’s franchisees. The decision whether the Żabka store at the station in Krosno will be open on Sundays will be taken by the franchisee that manages it” – Żabka Polska press office informed in the reply sent to us.
The station where Żabka opened its first store as part of the project belongs to the Rakieta chain – a network of small gas stations, new on the market, offering traditional and self-service refueling. Automotive Fuels Services is the owner of the station. The Rakieta fuel station network is to cover the entire territory of Poland. Currently, it has three operating stations: in Czempiń, Krosno near Mosina and Olszyna Lubańska.
Żabka has over 7,600 stationary stores throughout Poland.
Shops at petrol stations
A year ago Auchan Retail Polska and the BP concern have announced the commencement of cooperation on Polish market. As part of it – as announced – stores under the Easy Auchan brand will be launched at the stations. The first pilot store was opened at the Reduta station in Warsaw. As announced in the announcement, Easy Auchan stores will be open, as will BP gas stations, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The act that introduced restrictions on Sunday trading has been in force since March 1, 2018. However, there is a catalog of 32 exemptions. The prohibition does not apply, among others at liquid fuel stations.
The data of the Polish Organization of Oil Industry and Trade show that at the end of September this year. 7,824 petrol stations operated in Poland. Most of them belonged to PKN Orlen. At the end of September 2021, the Płock concern controlled 1,800 stations, including 22 facilities operating under the Bliska logo. BP and Lotos were also on the podium, 563 stations and 516 stations, respectively.
At the end of the third quarter, 176 fuel stations belonging to store chains were operating in Poland. The Intermarche network has the most, 71 stations. The leaders were also: Carrefour – 40 stations and Auchan – 25. Not much less, because 20 facilities at the end of September this year. owned the E.Leclerc chain.
