The firefighters' operation to extinguish a grass fire, a hazardous waste dump and a car repair shop in Zabrze is coming to an end. On Saturday, over 100 firefighters fought the fire, and on Sunday, nearly 60 are working on site. – The fire site is currently being cleared and water poured, there is no threat to residents – reported a TVN24 reporter.
A fire broke out on Saturday in the Zaborze district at Sierakowskiego Street in Zabrze. Grasses and waste were burning in an area of approximately 500 square meters. Junior Brigadier Wojciech Strugacz, press officer of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Zabrze, reported on Saturday that at first the services were dealing with a grass fire, but then, due to weather conditions, the fire spread to the waste dump. As reported on Sunday by TVN24 reporter Katarzyna Mikluec – the fire also appeared in the car repair shop.
The fire is being extinguished
As reported by the TVN24 reporter, at the peak of the operation, over 100 firefighters were working on the spot. – There is no threat to residents, the firefighters' actions since morning have been based on digging and pouring the burnt-out area. The firefighters' actions are to slowly end, but the area is to be constantly monitored – our journalist reported. – The balance of this fire is not the best, seven trucks, three semi-trailers, two passenger cars and six social containers burned down. All of this was located on the premises of the car repair shop, the losses are being counted – she added.
The air quality is good
The TVN24 reporter reported that the air quality over Zabrze is good, which was confirmed by the Commander of the State Fire Service in Zabrze, Senior Brigadier Tomasz Bajerczak.
– Our chemists from Katowice participating in the action examined both the atmosphere and the watercourses nearby and fortunately the smoke dissipated (dispersed) in the atmosphere to such an extent that there was no threat to the local residents or nearby houses during the action – said the firefighter.
Firefighters do not yet know what caused the fire.
