2.5 per mille of alcohol in the exhaled air had a 57-year-old man who was driving the wrong way through a tunnel in Zakopianka on Saturday night. He hit technical devices and was detained by the police.

The incident took place on the night of Saturday (February 25) to Sunday.

– The man drove a BMW car through the entire section of the tunnel against the current towards Zakopane, passing vehicles driving correctly towards Krakow. He is a 57-year-old from the Krakow poviat. He had 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air. After being arrested, the man was handed over to his family. When he sobers up, he will be interrogated – said Sebastian Gleń, spokesman for the Provincial Police Headquarters in Krakow.

Due to the dangerous maneuvers of the drivers, one lane of the tunnel was closed for an hour and a half from 21:30.

The prosecutor will decide on the charges against the 57-year-old. In addition to driving while intoxicated, the charge of imminent danger of a land traffic disaster is also taken into account, which is punishable by up to eight years in prison.
