From Tuesday, the organization of traffic on the bridge in Zakroczym will change due to the expansion of the S7 route on the Czosnów-Modlin section. Drivers will use a three-lane carriageway, with the direction of traffic on one lane changing depending on the time of day.

“Traffic in both directions will go along the road towards Warsaw, with a variable cross-section of 2+1, which should minimize difficulties. A similar solution has already been introduced at the height of Czosnów in the area of Pańska Street (Czosnów-Dębina)” – informed the General Road Directorate in a press release. National and Highways.

Signals will show the direction

Road workers reported that there are signals above the roadway indicating the organization of traffic on the lanes. “Just like in a road tunnel, a green arrow displayed above the lane will mean that you can use it. A red cross means no traffic” – indicated GDDKiA.

On weekdays, in the morning, two lanes will be available in the direction of Warsaw, and in the afternoon, in the opposite direction – two lanes in the direction of Gdańsk. On weekends and holidays, the number of lanes in a given direction will depend on traffic peaks.

Every day from 11:00 to 12:00 and 23:00 midnight, during changes to the direction markings, traffic may take place in one lane for each direction. The section with changed traffic organization has a speed limit of 50 km/h.

S7 widened to three lanes

GDDKiA obtained consent for the extension of the S7 route on the Modlin-Czosnów section in August. The contractor will replace the existing two-lane road with a new roadway with three lanes. In addition, two existing road junctions will be expanded: Modlin and Błonie. The bridge over the Vistula River in Zakroczym will also be widened, with three lanes in each direction. A sidewalk will also be built there (on the section of the structure towards Warsaw) and a bicycle path (on the side of the bridge towards Gdańsk).

Budimex is responsible for the construction of the expressway between Modlin and Czosnów. It won the tender in the Design and Build formula. The contract worth almost PLN 599 million was signed in May 2020.

According to the contract, the investment should be completed by the end of 2023. However, it turns out that the deadline may not be met. “The contractor has filed claims in which it expects an extension of the time for completion and additional funds. These relate, inter alia, to the lengthy procedure of obtaining the ZRID decision. If the contractor justifies that circumstances occurred during the implementation that were beyond its control and prevented the works the completion date may be postponed,” GDDKiA announced last year.
