Investigators now know more details of the tragedy that occurred in one of the villages in the commune of Zambrów (Podlaskie). The 85-year-old was concerned that he had not seen his 68-year-old neighbor for two days. When he entered his barn, he was attacked by bulls. He was taken to hospital. A neighbor was lying dead in the same room. The case is being handled by the prosecutor's office.
On Sunday (January 5), the police reported two men who were attacked by bulls in a barn in one of the towns in the Zambrów commune. The 68-year-old died on the spot, while the 85-year-old was taken to hospital.
The local district prosecutor's office has already initiated an investigation.

According to the findings so far, the 85-year-old was concerned that he had not seen his 68-year-old neighbor for two days. He went to look for him in the barn, where there were, among others, bulls. He was convinced that they were tethered, but it turned out that at least one of them was not. An 85-year-old man was attacked and mauled. His family helped him get out of the barn and they also notified the police.
The body of the 68-year-old farm owner was found in the same room.
The autopsy has already taken place
The investigation is currently being conducted in a case, i.e. not against anyone.
– It concerns exposing a person to a direct threat of loss of life or serious damage to health and unintentionally causing death – informs the head of the Zambrów prosecutor's office, Katarzyna Wankiewicz.
On Tuesday, January 7, an autopsy was performed on the 68-year-old. The aim was to determine the cause of death, including the exclusion of other causes (e.g. natural causes of death) than injuries suffered as a result of a bull attack.
Prosecutor's office: the cause of death is clear
– The autopsy findings show that all the injuries suffered by the injured party occurred during his lifetime. The expert indicated that – in his opinion, all these injuries could have been caused by the action of the animal – says prosecutor Wankiewicz.
This means that no death occurred before the attack. The prosecutor's office estimates that in this situation it will not need more detailed forensic tests.
– The cause of death is clear, the expert had no doubts – adds prosecutor Wankiewicz.
The bulls were temporarily euthanized
The man ran the farm alone and had about 20 cattle. Currently, the animals are taken care of by the neighbors and the deceased's sister, who usually lives in another part of Poland. The animals have something to eat and drink. These are the findings of the mayor of the Zambrów commune and the district veterinary inspectorate.
There is no decision yet on what to do with the bulls that attacked people. After notifying the police about the accident, a veterinarian was called to the scene along with the fire brigade and ambulance, who temporarily euthanized the animals so that they could be safely tied up.
